Starting and managing a business at any scale may seem like a daunting task, especially when confronted with the myriad financial documents that need to be created on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Too often, we hide our heads in the sand when it comes to this area of business because it can seem overwhelming (and possibly boring), especially if you are not an accounting professional. 

Even when outsourced to a consultant, do you really know what documents you need and how to interpret them? Do you know how these documents get created? Do you know the right questions to ask your financial consultants?

John Heutmaker-Managing Partner 

John has been working in both the public and private sectors in management positions since 1989. John graduated from the College of St. Thomas with a BA in Accounting and began his public accounting career with Boulay, Heutmaker, Zibell and Co. (BHZ) working on audit and review engagements with a number of manufacturing and service clients at BHZ. Over the last 10 years, John has been providing outsourced CFO/Controller services to a variety of companies throughout the Twin Cities metro area. John cultivated his skills at Frank Consulting, PLLP before starting Heutmaker Business Advisors in July 2003.

Over these 20 years of working in the accounting/finance industry, John’s work has provided him with a great skill set that few will match. With public and private background, John has been on “both sides of the table” so he knows how to approach all aspects of running a business and brings a wide range of experiences to be able to problem solve and be a client advocate. He’s “been there; done that.”
